About the Role:

As a Box Office Assistant, you'll be at the heart of the Festival, playing a crucial role in creating a seamless experience for our visitors. The role focuses on assisting customers making bookings over the counter, through our website and handling any telephone enquiries. In addition, you may be required to assist with sponsor and other complimentary ticket bookings.

This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who wish to build on their existing box office and customer service skills in a high-pressure Festival environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting customers with ticket purchases and enquiries.
  • Providing exceptional customer service to ensure a positive Festival experience.
  • Sharing information about the exciting events and exhibits at the festival.
  • Collaborating with the Festival team to maintain efficient box office operations.

The Box Office team are based primarily in the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. We operate a box office counter at this venue and operate a satellite telephone room. During the Festival, the Box Office is usually open 9.30am–5pm daily but occasionally stays open later for some events.

  • You will have excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • You are comfortable with technology, especially ticketing systems.
  • A passion for our work and a friendly, approachable demeanour. 
  • You will also thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • You will enjoy the flexibility to work evenings and weekends during the Festival period.

    We are seeking interest and CVs from crew, technicians, and production staff with experience in preparation, installation, de-rig, and live operations within a festival and live event setting. As part of our network of contractors, you will support Edinburgh Science as we deliver our multi-disciplinary programme, including our flagship festival in April 2026 and our Generation Science schools touring program.
