Staffing and Projects Manager


Pay: £150 per day (84 days)

Work Hours: On average 19.6hrs/ week over 30 weeks. Ideally - 14 hours per week for 19 weeks. 28 hours per week from early Feb – late April, with two weeks of 35 hour weeks for the live festival period (3 – 18 April 2027)

Duration: Temporary, approximately 30 weeks (84 days in total) between November and June.

About the role:

We are seeking a manager to provide high-quality staff management and project support to our organisation. This is an exciting and diverse opportunity to work on our largest UK projects: our annual Edinburgh Science Festival and our schools touring programme, Generation Science. The role is key to the smooth running of our busy programming and operations teams.  

You will focus on the recruitment, training and management of the temporary staffing teams for Generation Science (Edinburgh Science’s schools touring programme) and the Edinburgh Science Festival. You will also provide some project management support, helping to plan, execute, and deliver these projects within scope, budget, and schedule alongside the Senior Project Manager.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has experience with staff management in a festival or events environment, leading or managing people. You will have previous experience recruiting and selecting high-quality teams as well as planning staff rotas and managing staff budgets. You will be an excellent communicator who can work to a high standard under pressure of deadlines and targets. You will have strong administration and organisation skills including experience in Microsoft Office suite – especially in Excel. You will have also had experience managing projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget and have some experience with project management tools 

Successful candidates for this post may be required to join the PVG scheme and subject to a criminal check through Disclosure Scotland.
